Franciscan Friars of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Mary’s Army in Blue

As Franciscan Friars of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we are a Religious Order of Perpetually Professed Priests and Brothers, founded, at the specific request of Our Blessed Mother, by Fr Francis Mary of Our Lady of the Rosary FFBVM.  We are seeking to live a Consecrated life in the Franciscan tradition.  We Profess Total Consecration of our entire self to Mary Immaculate and the Traditional Vows of Poverty, Chastity and Obedience.  We share a common life of prayer as well as Devotions to Our Blessed Mother.  As Consecrated Friars in the Franciscan Tradition, we follow and observe the Rule of 1223 A.D., written by St Francis of Assisi and approved by Pope Honorius III.  We bear new names in Religion of different Saints and the name Mary in honor of our Blessed Mother (ie:  Fr/Br Patrick Mary, FFBVM).

As Consecrated Religious Men of the Roman Catholic Faith we have been given the obligation of Evangelization by Pope Paul VI – to preach and teach the Catholic Faith and the Gospel so as to seek out lost souls and make known to men the Love and Salvation of Jesus Christ, (Ezekiel 34:16) “The Lost I will seek out, the strayed I will bring back”.

Our Community of Priests and Brothers will also work with the sick, the poor, the homeless, orphans, and the terminally ill regardless of their Religious Preference or no preference at all, for this is what Our Blessed Mother has asked us to do.

Catholic men age 18 and older, who would like more information about The Franciscan Friars of the Blessed Virgin Mary, or who are interested in setting up a visit, are encouraged to contact the Minor General or the Director of Vocations.  For those interested in Discerning our way of life begins with a couple of visits to one of our Friaries.  The Lord’s invitation was to “COME and SEE”, we ask those interested in our Community to do the same, where possible.  For those men in other countries, individual  arrangements can be made and worked out.

Following the wisdom of St Francis, there is no age limit on vocations.  St Francis was explicit in welcoming older vocations.  All men of the Roman Catholic Faith, age 18 and older, are welcome to come and discern with us.

The Franciscan Friars of the Blessed Virgin Mary are open to the availability of the inquirer.  We would like the first visit to be at least a 3 day stay.  The second visit should be at least a week long. Longer periods, for either or both visits, can be arranged.

We have “NO EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS” in keeping with the intentions of St Francis who was humbled in accepting men of all classes and levels of education. Therefore  ALL are WELCOME.

Our only requirements are those given by St. Francis:

  1. Unwavering Loyalty to the MAGESTERIUM.
  2. Faithful and Dedicated observance of the Roman Catholic Faith.
  3. A deep desire to love God with one’s whole being.
  4. A firm belief and practice of frequenting the Sacraments.
  5. Possess the Physical, mental and spiritual health ability to live in Community.
  6. To live a chaste and moral life according to the dictates of Christ and His Church.
  7. A Willingness to abandon all that you have, for the love of Christ and possess the generosity of the Gospel invitation:
